Abstract

In This paper introduced FACTS controllers for series and shunting and analyzed the characteristics and benefits of their controls.

The Versatile Ac transmission system (FACTS), a modern technology focused on power electronics, provides an opportunity to improve the control, stability and power transfer capabilities of the transmission systems.                                         The application of FACTS controllers presents new challenges for power engineers, not only in hardware implementation but also in the design, planning, and analysis of robust control systems.                                  

                                              Introduction and Research Objectives

The FACTS definition is based on the significant incorporation of electronic power devices and methods into the high-voltage side of the network so that it can be regulated electronically.                                                                                                                     The FACTS controllers are designed to increase the control of power flows on the high-voltage side of the network under both stable and transient conditions .                            Dr. N. Hingorani introduced the concept of FACTS as a philosophy of total network control in 1988. FACTS received the support of electrical equipment manufacturers, utilities, and research organizations around the world due to the many economic and technical advantages it promised.                                                                                      That curiosity has led to significant FACTS controller technical advances. There are many types of FACTS controllers commissioned in various parts of the world. The most popular ones are charging tap changers, phase angle regulators.              In the upcoming papers, I will talk about defining facts as well as about the different types that have their advantages and applications.                                  Also on the comparison between the serial controller and the parallel controller

v FACTS

(Flexible AC Transmission System): alternating current transmission systems integrating electronic controls and other static controllers to increase controllability and enhance power transmission capability.

·        It is worth mentioning in this description of FACTS the words "other static Controls" suggesting that there might be others. Static Controllers that are not electronic dependent.

      FACTS Controller. A power electronic system and other static equipment which control one or many conditions of the AC transmission system.
